Today, after 48 years on this blob of spit and sand I finally found out the correct lyrics to Rhinestone Cowboy

I'd always thought it went

"Getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
And all sorts comin' over the snow"

it's "offers comin' over the phone"

Makes a lot more sense.
